My thoughts on people and calamities.
Lately, our country, the Philippines, has been experiencing calamities that to some extent has been very destructive to many properties, and fatal to some people. All the while, I have been reading tweets about the nonstop rainfall. I really cannot get why some people blame other things for this occurrence, instead of looking deeper on the subject matter. WAKE UP GUYS! It's our fault! It's mother nature's wake up call to the things we have been doing to her. People kept on tweeting about how this calamity is the result of God's punishment to Filipinos because of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill that has been a hot topic for many months already. HELLO! At least anyone who has faith in God knows that He is righteous. It's really sad to say but a lot of people tend to be hypocrites, pretending to be good followers of God, but then they're only Christians in words, and not in actions. I know of a certain friend who is against the RH bill and yet she uses birth control pills, morning after pills and condoms. How ironic is that? Anyway, back to the topic, we should not blame God, or the government for what has happened to our country. It's like the saying, a good leader is a good follower. If WE, the citizens of the Philippines, do not know how to be good followers, then how can we even expect good leaders from the government? We do nothing but complain, and yet, did we do anything about it? NOTHING. We must do our part. Simple things like following traffic rules, and throwing the trashes in the appropriate receptacle. And yet, what do we constantly notice on the streets? Trashes all over the streets, candy wrappers, and pieces of papers which would eventually clog the sewage system. Remember guys, no matter how much the government tries to fix the sewage systems, if we constantly litter everywhere, it's all gonna be the same. We NEVER really learned after Ondoy. We just learned to blame the government, and now, we're blaming the RH bill. There was even a hype on linking the calamity with the passage from the bible, Genesis 8: 7-12. Come on people, we have to start within ourselves. The problem is because of our own doing and the solution would also start within ourselves. Stop blaming the government. Yes, they are responsible for improving the state of the sewage systems, but still, let's do our part, that's how we become good citizens of the country and good stewards of God.
